Treesap

Treesap? NO GAK!!!!!

We made some Gak to play with this morning (also called avoiding kitty games). Claire however was having a hard time with the word Gak. Treesap mom? No Gak. I finally gave up and now she is happily playing with "treesap". Whatever.

They added their glue to their bowls and now shaking water in the glue containers to add:

Adding their colors, which was a complete waste of time because just like playdough they mixed it all together and now its a big blue green blob.

Added the borax and now turning it into treesap. I mean Gak.

And while the cat (ugghhh did I just say that?) was away (blogging for you, I might add) the mice will play. Look MOM! (Claire) Yook MOM! (Wyatt)

Yep, that is all the gak on the floor. And Claire dancing away because its super funny. Yeah, really funny. Here are the mice cleaning it up.

At least it was just Gak and not a swimming pool right? Luckily this mess will be cleaned up before daddy comes home. Gotta go help, the mice are fighting over the clean up job.

Meet the Teacher

This morning we all went out to Starbucks for breakfast (see earlier post) and then went to Claire's new school to meet her teacher. Claire is super excited, which takes a lot of stress off of me. Her teacher Ms. Becky seems super nice and Chris was impressed with how organized everything seemed. She starts next Wednesday and seems to be really looking forward to it.

Her class only has about 14 kids which will be so different from daycare. I think it will be nice for her to have one year of a smaller class before she goes on to the bigger school. I was told the teachers really try to give them some one on one time.

Hopefully she just doesn't try to take over the teacher's job.... :)

For some reason I didn't get any pics inside her class, but will do that the first day of school. They had a welcome table where we got some cookies and juice.

Stick Family

I was thinking this morning when we went to Starbucks for breakfast that if we were a stick family on the car type of family, we would have Starbucks drinks instead of a stick family. We aren't though. (And for the record, Chris thought this was embaressing).

And this is something that we miss about Seattle. These were on all the tables outside the Starbucks. You would never see this back home, but luckily no one was using them:

Balloons

We found some water balloons yesterday while digging through some craft supplies. Last time we tried to fill water balloons with water they kept popping so I gave up. I have this nifty pump I bought for Chris as part of a silly Christmas present a few years ago and it works great for pumping up water balloons.

And Goose being silly:

And this cracks me up. Wyatt blowing up the balloons. We watched this over and over in bed last night and it kept cracking Chris and I up.

Avoiding Kitty

My biggest struggle with this whole SAHM thing is the pretend play. I know its so important for their development but I just don't have the patience for it. Claire loves to play kitty and as soon as I hear that meow I immediately tense up. I never do anything quite right when it comes to pretend and it makes me cranky. I try to keep us busy with projects instead. Wyatt is starting to be able to play a lot more so hopefully he can play kitty with her real soon. Besides kitties make me sneeze. Even pretend ones.

This week we made a box train/car thing.

The first attempt:

I tried to use brackets to keep the boxes together but that didn't work. The next day Claire and I basically taped the crap out of the boxes, and cut some windows:

The inside with the steering wheels (quite proud of the steering wheels I must say). However, if we had my way I would have covered them in foil. But I lost that battle.

Maniac

She's a maniac, a maniac that's for sure
She's a maniac on two wheels........

Okay, maybe that's not exactly how the song goes or Claire's temperment BUT she did a great job riding her bike last night when we went for a walk. This was huge for us:

And this one too:

We rode up the elementary school that is in our neighborhood and where the kids will go. It's probably less than a quarter mile and they have a great playground. This is the first time we have walked/rode up there and played. It was fun for everyone and I mean everyone. ;)

Bridge

My neighbor bought me a book on moving. This quote was in it and I really liked it. Makes me think of all of you:

"Though time and miles may separate us, I have built a bridge of lovely memories to span the distance." Virginia Tubbs

Love and Miss you all!!!

Unpluggits

There is a place here called Unpluggits that the kids and I have checked out twice now. It's a big playground/craft place. Here is more info on it. I thought I have blogged about it the first time, but I must have forgot. All of the pics are from the first time we went and the videos are the second. We did do some craft projects both times, but I never seem to remember to take their pictures while they are working on them.

They have dress up clothes:

A pirate ship:

A giant playground (that's Goose up top):

A sand table with trucks:

A train table:

A tree house:

This is by far the best. The second time we went there were hardly anyone there. The kids had a blast playing with the air hockey table. These videos are pretty cute. Claire got pretty excited when she scored.

Historical Society & Museum

We checked out the Historical Society & Museum today.

http://www.edmondhistory.org/

It tells all the history of Edmond and it has a mini settlers town for the kids. It kept them pretty entertained and the best part it's free! It was a bit dark in there so my pictures aren't that great and I forgot to bring the bigger camera with me again.

The building is really cool. I'm not sure what the building was originally built for. I am sure I missed that part in there somewhere.

There was a gardening area:

A settler's house:

A train (Goose is "driving" the train):

The Bank (Goose's favorite):

A teepee:

And a jail. It's a mean looking sheriff (Who actually looks like she is dressed for the 1970s in this picture):

She's a tough one, here are her prisoners:

It was a fun and free morning. Wore them out enough that Wyatt went straight down for his nap. YEAH!!!!

Compost - Like Fine Wine

Just read a gardening quote "Compost is best aged like fine wine." How is that not appropriate for me???

When we were talking about moving out here and I was listing off all the things I "had" to have in order to make this move a composter was one of them. I'd been bugging Chris for awhile and this seemed as good as time as any to play some cards.

I also attempted to play the cards with Chris's boss. I told him a composter should be part of his sign on bonus. I was kidding....Kinda. :)

Once we got here I told Chris I really wanted that composter but he always had an excuse. We needed a fence first. Then we needed the fence to get stained. Blah, blah, blah. Little did I know Jonathon was buying me a composter and Chris was trying to hold me off. I can be a pain when I want something. :)

And...yesterday I was extremely happily surprised to find a package from the Biards on my front porch. A composter!!!!!

It was all I could do to get through lunch and get Wyatt down for a nap before I opened that box up.

I saw the bag of screws and almost decided to wait for Chris, but then I remembered the bookcase, the table and the chairs and thought I CAN DO THIS!

Besides, I had my assistant.

She was ready with the wrench, but lost interest fairly quickly. Especially when assistant 2 never fell asleep and I choose to work on the composter instead of battle him.

Here is the halfway point.

And Voila, I did it!

I need another WAHOOO!!!!!!

Here is the first batch to go into the compost. Some paper towells, potato chips and the stems from some grapes.

Thank you, Thank you to the Biards!!! I am so excited and very thankful for their thoughtfulness.

Library

Went to the library today. They have computers the kids are able to play on. They are limited to a half hour slot. They pretty much sat there without asking me for too much help for a half hour. More quiet time for me. :)

Lake Stanley Draper

Sunday (August 19th) we went to a ORV park by Lake Stanley Draper. It took us about 40 mins to get to from our house. Here is a link to information about the park:

http://www.okc.gov/lakes/draper.html

It had a great riding area with really maintained trails. Chris was able to get some "me time" and just go while me and the kids hung out and played in the dirt. My mistake was not bringing my kindle. I was able to sit there for awhile while they played. Then I was able to get some practice (and my first crash) in. Chris took Claire for a couple rides and Wyatt sat on the bike. It was a really fun day and the first day since this whole "Oklahoma Thing" came up that we were able to get up in the morning and just go have some fun. It was much needed!!!!

The kids playing in the dirt:

Claire getting ready to ride with Daddy:

And me practicing (I only get a bigger picture because it came from Chris's phone):

Just down the street at the park is an radio controlled airplane club. One of Chris's co-workers is a member so we stopped by and watched a few of the planes fly.

Park

Saturday (August 19th) we walked down to the pool again in the evening. It was the coldest it has been because we had a huge thunder and lightening storm earlier in the day and the rain water made the temperature go down. Don't worry it was totally clear and sunny when we walked down after dinner. This probably the first time the kids have really been able to play at the park which we stopped by on our way home. It has been too hot to the touch.
